Don’t leave your safety to chance
Lightning protection system design and installation
Protect your buildings, property and people with lightning protection systems designed and installed to British safety standards.
Protect your business
Why you need a Lightning Protection System
Installing a Lightning Protection System (LPS) to your premises is an essential safety measure to protect your property, staff, customers, and visitors. It can help to prevent damage caused by lightning strikes to your building its contents and occupants.
Lightning Protection Systems vary but it could save you money in the long run by protecting your property when required and potentially reducing your insurance costs. And knowing your buildings and people are protected from the dangers of lightning can provide peace of mind for you and your staff.
We can help ensure that if lightning strikes, your property is safe, protected and legally compliant.
We design and install lightning protection systems in a range of commercial buildings, including…
Offices
Healthcare facilities
Shops and retail outlets
Business centres
Pubs and restaurants
Schools and colleges
Factories and workshops
Places of worship
Hotels
Garages
Leisure centres
Warehouses and storage
Complete peace of mind
About our lightning protection system design and installation service
Lightning protection systems protect buildings from the surge and impact damage a lightning strike creates. A correctly installed LPS performs the simple but vital task of providing a network of low-resistance paths for the lightning current to follow instead of through other parts of a building.
While the concept behind lightning protection is relatively simple, the requirements for proper installation are specific and often complex.
Our expert team of engineers will work closely with you to identify your needs and design and install the right LPS for your building, in line with current BS EN 62305 – 2006 safety standards and specifications.
How it works
About our lightning protection systems
We design and install Class I, II, III & IV lightning protection systems in domestic, commercial and historic buildings across the UK. All our installations are BS EN 62305 – 2006-compliant and comprise the following elements:
Air terminal network
A roof-mounted system of conductors designed to intercept lightning strikes and safely channel the resulting current into the ground. They provide a low-resistance path for the lightning current to follow, safely dissipating it into the ground without damaging the building.
Down conductors
Down conductors safely redirect a lightning strike’s electrical current to the ground. They are an essential part of a lightning protection system as they provide a clear path for the electrical current to follow, ensuring it doesn’t enter the structure and cause damage.
Earth termination
Earth terminations are connected to the down conductors and safely disperse the lightning’s current into the ground. To be effective, earth terminations must be properly designed and installed, and regularly maintained and tested to ensure they function correctly.
Interconnections
Interconnections address the secondary effects of a lightning strike by minimising the risk of harmful currents jumping or side flashing. They limit the amount of current that can travel within the system and safely discharge it away from buildings and people.
Surge suppression
Surge suppressors protect power lines and electrical equipment from the damaging effects of a lightning strike. They’re connected to the LPS’s grounding system and act as a buffer, absorbing some of the energy from the strike to reduce its impact on the equipment.

How it works
About our lightning protection systems
While most LPS installations are straightforward, some buildings are more challenging and require more complex solutions. For example, some facilities need extensive excavation in a small working area to obtain the desired resistance readings.
All our specialist earthing systems comply with BS 7430-1998 for complete safety and peace of mind.
We also offer a complete design and installation service covering all aspects of electrical and specialist earthing systems, including:
- Substation earthing
- Transformer earthing
- Generator earthing
- Static earthing
- Communications mast earthing
- Surge protection
Protect your buildings
Can you afford to take the risk?
According to RoSPA, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, lightning strikes the ground around 300,000 times a year in the UK.
The impact of a lightning strike on a building can be devastating. It can shatter glass, fracture brick and stonework, crack foundations, blow out plaster and cause substantial structural damage. It can also pose a significant fire risk and cause damage to electrical systems and connected equipment or appliances. The bill for repairs can run into tens of thousands of pounds.
A professionally installed lightning protection system can reduce or eliminate the risks associated with a lightning strike. That’s where we can help. If your building isn’t protected and you’re worried that lightning might strike, give us a call today.
